Join Grayson Perry RA and psychotherapist, Philippa Perry, for a conversation about art, sex and creativity as part of the RA's Festival of Ideas.

Grayson Perry RA, winner of the Turner Prize in 2003, is one of Britain’s best-known contemporary artists. His works reference his childhood and life as a transvestite while also engaging with wider social issues – including class and politics, sex and religion. In this conversation Grayson and his wife, psychotherapist and author, Philippa Perry, discuss the relationship between art and psychotherapy and the common misconceptions surrounding both.

Born in Chelmsford, Essex in 1960, he lives and works in London. He works with traditional media; ceramics, cast iron, bronze, printmaking and tapestry and has exhibited nationally and internationally. Perry was elected a Royal Academician in 2012, awarded a CBE in 2013 and in 2015 was appointed Trustee of the British Museum and Chancellor of the University of the Arts, London. In 2013 he delivered BBC Radio 4’s 'The Reith Lectures', to widespread acclaim and published his book, 'Playing to the Gallery'. He is a multi-award-winning television presenter working on series on class, identity and masculinity for Channel 4. The series 'All Man', which considered masculinity, with its related book 'The Descent of Man', was broadcast in 2016. A major exhibition of his work, 'The Greatest Art Exhibition Ever!' was held at the Serpentine Gallery in the summer of 2017.

Philippa Perry has been a psychotherapist for the past twenty years. A respected author her latest book, 'The Book You Wish Your Parents Had Read (And Your Children Will be Glad That You Did'), is published this spring. A faculty member of Alain de Botton’s The School of Life, she has presented several documentaries including 'The Truth about Children Who Lie' for BBC Radio 4 and 'Being Bipolar' for Channel 4. Most recently, Philippa featured in the highly popular dating show, 'Celebs Go Dating', where she used her expertise to give the celebrities such much needed love advice.

This event will be chaired by the RA’s Artistic Director Tim Marlow and will include an audience Q&A at the end.

Grayson and Philippa Perry will be signing books in the Burlington Gardens entrance hall, outside Pace Gallery after the event.

This event will be accompanied by British Sign Language interpretation.
