Danielle Ledbury - Photography

Danielle is a Photographer, printmaker and teacher based in Penrith, Cumbria. Originally from Wiltshire in the west country she has relocated North to work in education and the outdoors. Her work often revolves around visual storytelling choosing to document and focus on the subtle narratives of places, people and aspects often overlooked. She is an advocate of the positive benefits to mindset and wellbeing that come from being outdoors and connecting to the natural world around us through art and adventure. During lockdown she has been exploring experimental photographic techniques  by creating artwork from all the hidden treasures found in her garden, including using the flowers found to create Cyanotypes a form of light sensitive photographic process.

She is often involved with community projects and has brought artists together and curated exhibitions as part of the Bath Fringe Arts Festivals including 'wish you were here' and 'the man who bought Stonehenge and other stories' hosting film and talk nights discussing the relationship between storytelling and history in art. Danielle's personal interest in telling a visual story has lead her to work on projects such as 'The last tennis ball factory', a touring exhibition on the people behind the British wool industry and documenting the places and people she has met on her cycle adventures around the world most recently in Kyrgyzstan.

She is a strong believer in the importance of imagination and creative thinking and as a teacher has run projects in schools working with young people to develop these skills through the medium of art, photography and stop motion animation. She also works with adults running workshops for individuals or groups to develop self-confidence and creative image taking through courses such as Beginners guide to camera functions, understanding compositional techniques, Lightroom/photoshop editing and visual storytelling through photobooks. She self published her own book 'Site 3' which documented the mysterious underground facility created to house 4000 people in the case of a nuclear attack but was never used and instead kept secret for many years.
